Esther MATHIS
Drowning Bell
21st January – 9th April 2011
For her first solo exhibition Swiss artist Esther Mathis presented both photographic and video works from various series. Frailty and isolation go hand in hand in these works, poetically blurring the boundary between reality and illusion. Aged only 25, and thus the gallery’s youngest artist, Mathis has nonetheless already developed a captivating, highly individual style; part figurative, part abstract, her distinct monochrome colour pallet and use of tactile surfaces accentuate her indistinguishable visual language and seeming simplicity.
